"March of Progress" by Scott Horsley

OPENING RECEPTION:
Friday, March 2, 2018
6 - 8 p.m.
in conjunction with Ogden City Arts' #FirstFridayArtStroll

About March of Progress:

Scott says "My work looks at how technologies at every age of human civilization exert control, loudly or subtly, over human choices... In these works, Islamic geometric patterns, (an early abstract homage to the divine) pair with imagined, hallucinogenic depictions of the jet engines and rockets that have permanently changed the way we relate spatially to our place and planet."

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST: GEOFFRY SMALLEY

December 2017

A passion for sports is, on its surface, one without purpose. Just listen to a half hour of any sports talk show and you will walk away with thoughts. But to understand the history of American team sports is to understand our national development. From our rural, agrarian beginnings comes baseball: originally played during the day, on a “field”, tethered to the elements, with no clock, rife with personal failure, overcome. Out of the Industrial Revolution came football. The synchronicity of specialized moving parts, the restrictions of performing tasks within a time limit, the taking of land by force-a blithe reflection of a nation at work and at war. The post-industrial era saw a rise in the popularity of basketball. Free-formed and creative, individualism within a collaborative scheme, stripped of gear and protection and played at a continuous pace. The “big three”American sports are, at their core, representations of our past and so they embody our parochial and national allegiances, and in part define our ethos.

Driven to Abstraction

October - November 22, 2014

"Driven to Abstraction", an exhibition of painting and sculpture, will once again be curated by Patrajdas Contemporary, and feature nationally-exhibited artists Chris Trueman (CA), Kim Piotrowski (IL), Darrell Roberts (IL) and Madeleine Wories (AZ), as well as Utah artists Jean Arnold, Sunny Belliston Taylor, and Ogden's own Fred Hunger and Sean Moyer.

Each of the represented artists addresses a different form of abstraction: geometric,  intuitional , minimal, gestural, or some combination. For some, the form is the ultimate concern, for others, color holds sway.  In all cases, the artist is interested in provoking feeling moreso than understanding.

 2014

An exhibition of works by 8 contemporary Korean-born artists: painters, sculptors and photographers. This exhibition hopes to highlight how contemporary Korean artists are exploring and bringing into play a wide diversity of new materials bound together by the use of time-established and more innovative techniques. Readily apparent is a culture exhibiting a proficiency of execution, a particular finesse and dexterity with material, a thoughtfulness about artistic concerns, and a preoccupation with detail.

artists include:
Sang Sik Hong, Koh Sang Woo, Jong Seok Yoon

"Constructing the Figure"
glass works by Jeff Wallin mixed media works by Rogelio Manzo
and collage works by Sienna Freeman

Jeff Wallin’s intricately distressed surfaces and eerie human figuration
suggest the depths of psychological portraiture.
Rogelio Manzo
unearths the story below the surface exposing the viewer to a
visceral discourse concerned with of our own bodily integrityand mortality
.
Sienna Freeman explores the transitory nature of self-perception,
memory, and emotion. Through collage, she seeks to simulate and
re-evaluate pivotal moments in her life.

"Icons"
mixed media works by Kim Piotrowski

January  2012

Sometimes all you can recall of your dreams
are flashes of vivid color, emotions and a couple of vague details;
it is in that elusive realm between dreaming and reality
that Kim Piotrowski’s new lush, mixed-media paintings live/reside/hover.
